An Edwardian reproduction of a 17th Century silver cup & Cover

  • Reference Number: 1.5
  • Description: An Edwardian reproduction of a 17th Century silver cup & Cover. 15.2cm tall, bowl 18cm wide or 29cm with handles. The sides with cut card work acanthus leaf decoration and acanthus leaf capped scroll handles. The 19cm wide cover has a multiple leaf knop finial with leaf decoration around the base, 8cm tall.
  • Engravings: On one side is engraved the 1664 Coat of Arms. On the other side is engraved “Presented to the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers by Thomas Herbert Griffiths Master 1908”.

A late 19C American sterling Silver Gilt Rose Water Dish

  • Reference Number: 1.4
  • Description: A late 19C American sterling Silver Gilt Rose Water Dish, designed in a leaf pattern above and below, with a side handle styled as the stem. The raised edges mimic the in-and-out pattern of leaves. Attached to the handle are three distinct leaves on a branch, the central one adorned with a six-legged winged insect.
  • Engravings: The inside of the base is engraved on the left with the Glass Seller Coat of Arms and, on the right, a tribute text: “In loving remembrance of Arthur Dalgarno Robinson MA. Clerk in Holy Orders. Citizen and Glass Seller, Chaplain and Prime Warden of the W.Co. of Glass Sellers. Presented to them by his widow June 1899”. The dish’s outside is engraved “WRC Octr 1833. 7th RDB 1883”.
  • Maker’s Mark: Marked underneath is Sterling 612. The maker is Theodore B Starr.
  • Dimensions: The dish spans 28cm across (33cm with handle), and depth varies between 7.5cm to 9cm.

2 Silver Flower Stands with toleware liners

  • Reference Number: 1.6
  • Description: 2 Silver Flower Stands with toleware liners, stored in 2 separate boxes. Each stand is oval-shaped with dimensions of 30.5cm in length and a maximum of 19cm in width, resting on four scrolled feet. For attachment, each stand has a silver squared mesh with four clips. The almost tapering height of the stand goes from 14.2cm at the ends to 11.5cm at the center.
  • Maker’s Mark and Hallmarks: The base has a stamp of the “Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company. 112 Regent Street W. Rd. No: 570549”. Furthermore, each stand has six oval cartouches around the sides with hallmarks “G&S.Co.Ltd. Sheffield 1911”.
  • Engravings: One stand bears the inscription “Presented to T Lampard Green Esqre PM by the members of the Court of the Glass Sellers’ Company on the occasion of his resigning the position of Worshipful Master for the fourth time. Advent Sunday December 3.1911”. The other stand bears the engraved Glass Sellers’ Coat of Arms.

A King George III Silver Gilt Campana-shaped Cup and Cover

  • Reference Number: 1.8
  • Description: A King George III Silver Gilt Campana-shaped Cup and Cover adorned with an applied frieze of fruiting vines on a wide frosted band, the lower part exhibits acanthus-leaf chasing and vine-embellished handles. The cover features an ovolo border and a pomegranate finial. The cup and cover have a height of 21.5cm and a width of 16cm.
  • Engravings: Engraved with armorials on either side of the body (one saying “Quid Clarius Astris”). The Left side of the Crest has 9 Stars, while the right features 3 Lion’s heads. The Cover interior is inscribed “To Matthew Baillie MD from the Executors of the late George Ellis Esq as a small token of their respect and regard”. It also bears a silver plaque engraved “This Cup was made by Rebecca Eames and Edward Barnard in the year 1815 (Reign of George III) & was presented to the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers on the 15th day of December 1933 by Harry E Clark Esqre to commemorate his year of office as Master 1932-33”.
  • Maker’s Marks and Hallmarks: The cup and cover are hallmarked London 1815 and bear the signatures of the makers Rebecca Eames and Edward Barnard. Furthermore, the silver plaque is hallmarked (i) London 1924 with the maker’s mark R.C.
  • Dimensions and Weight: The cover’s height (including the knob) is 7.5cm, width 18cm. There is an extra black wooden plinth (not to be used with the cup) with a height of 6.5cm and a width of 16.5cm. The total weight is approximately 46oz.

  • Description: An Edwardian Silver Gilt Trophy Cup and Cover
    • Height: 26.5 cm (or 29.2 cm with 2 curved handles from base of cup)
    • Cup Width: 15.2 cm (or 26 cm with handles)
    • Base: 11.5 cm
    • Cover: 16 cm wide with a circular finial

  • Engravings:
    • The cup is engraved: “This cup was presented to the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers on 16th day of March 1934 by Alexander L Howard JP Master of the Company for the years 1925-6 and 1926-7.”
    • On the reverse side within a circle is: “Glass Sellers Company. Incorporated 1664″. Picture of Charles II above the Royal Crest & below the City of London & Company Crests”.
  • Maker’s Marks and Hallmarks: A faint maker’s mark is present but both items bear the hallmark of Birmingham 1908.

A George IV Silver-gilt Rosewater Dish

  • Reference Number: 1.10
  • Description: A grade IV George Silver-gilt Rosewater Dish by John Edward Terrey
    • Features a heavily embossed border decorated with baskets of fruit, flowers, scrolls and cartouches
    • The rim shows an intricate design, edged with fruiting vines
    • The center is set with a richly decorated plaque featuring playful putti and Bacchus astride a donkey set in a forest scenery
    • Dimensions: The dish is 56cm wide and the center is 20.3cm
  • Engraving: There is an inscription within a cartouche rimmed by the dish which reads “The Gift of Past Master Harry E Clark FCA and Past Master Alexander L Howard JP 1938”
  • Hallmark: The dish holds the mark of “JET. London 1824 (i)”

  • Engraving: Falls on one side only and says “Glass Sellers Company. In grateful and affectionate remembrance of George John Leckie, Honorary Clerk to the above Company, who he loyally and faithfully served for nearly 30 years, this cup is presented by the Master Wardens and members of the Livery 1912 – 1941”.
  • Hallmark: Although faint, bears the London 1910 mark.

    • Rests on a 13cm trumpet foot base
    • Height: 26cm (or 28.5cm including handles)

  • Inscription: The plain cup bears an inscription “Presented to the Worshipful Company of Glass Sellers by Alexander Liddon Howard in his sixth year as Master to mark the year 1942 when twenty-eight nations were at war with three nations in the fight for the cause of Christianity and Freedom”.
  • Hallmark: The cup is hallmarked by CSH (Charles Stuart Harris & Sons) and is dated as London 1911. (Please note that the original listing of 1912 was incorrect).
  • Weight: Approximately 28 oz.

  • Description: A George III Silver Vase shaped Cup and Cover
    • The cup stands at a height of 28.5cm, or 35cm tall including the curved handles from the base of the cup
    • Cup width: 15cm (26.5cm including handles)
    • Rests on a 14.2cm base
    • Decorated extensively with a bright cut design, acorn pattern around the lip of the cup with swags beneath, and a leaf design at the top of the handles
    • The 15cm wide cover is 15.2cm high, heavily decorated around the edges and top, and also features a finial
  • Gilding: Both cup and cover are gilded inside
  • Engravings:
    • The cup is engraved with the Glass Sellers’ Coat of Arms within a circular wreath design
    • On the other side, the engraving reads “The gift of William Gilbert Allen FCA Master 1950-1”
  • Hallmarks: Made in London by R W Hennell (Robert & David) of Foster Lane in the City; dated 1795 both on Cup & Cover (originally a tea urn with the spout removed, with the original inscription flooded and then reinscribed)

  • Description: A late Victorian silver gilt cup and cover of campana form, featuring:
    • Beaded girdle above an acanthus leaf girdle
    • A fluted lower part applied with stiff leafage
    • Ribbed handles with fluted junctions
    • Fluted foot with ropework girdle and oak leaf border
    • Stand on a pedestal base
    • The cover embellished with a laurel ball finial rising from a calyx of overlapping leafage
  • Decorations: Each side applied with a ribbon tied oak leaf wreath
    • The engraving on one side presents the Arms of the Glass Sellers
    • The opposite side showcases “The Gift of W. G. Allen etc”
    • An inscription around the front base reads “This loving cup is exactly the same as the one presented by The Corporation of London to the City of Vienna at which ceremony in Vienna Sheriff W. G. Allen was with the Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor in May 1956”
